OCCUPATION • Card player

FAMILY • Casper’s father was a U.S. Marshall killed in the line of duty when Casper was only eleven. Casper’s mother has since remarried after they returned to New York, initially living with his maternal grandparents. Casper’s grandfather took to look after Casper as his mother worked several jobs to support them.
PERSONALITY • Casper is an ebullient, enthusiastic and cheeky agreeable and high-spirited chap. Despite the sadness of his childhood he was raised to be optimistic and to always have a bright outlook and to think the best of everyone he meets. This means though that he can be oblivious to when others are in a foul mood, especially if it is him grating on their nerves. He presents a happy go lucky façade to outsiders but deep down he has his own insecurities and doubts but with a flash of his pearly whites he quickly dismisses these and carries on.
HISTORY • Hailing from New York originally Casper Boscoe-Kydd grew up moving from one territory to the next as his father’s work as a U.S. Marshal kept him on the move. His father was a decent law abiding man and a good father who encouraged Casper as a child to be always friendly and courteous and despite the nature of his father’s business to always think the best of people.
At the age of eleven Casper’s father Stanton Boscoe was gunned down by outlaws who were trying to rustle cattle (the gang were never caught). Casper’s mother returned to New York where she had family. Living with his maternal grandparents Casper grew up instilled with the same values his father fostered in him - to be courteous, kind, smiling and bright in outlook.
His grand-papa was a bit of a player and he taught Casper to play cards to help him with the loss of his father. It became clear that Casper had a bit of a talent for playing cards and he became enthralled with the smoke filled, whiskey drenched aroma of the saloons his grand-papa played in. Casper loved the player mentality, the joviality and the serious stakes of the game. He loved the flashy clothes and the laughter and banter of the men and women who thronged the card tables.
So at his earliest possible moment, Casper began to play cards and soon was trying his hand in higher stake games. He was good - though not as good as he and his grand-papa were inclined to believe. Still he has managed to make a reasonable living out of playing cards. He also began to style himself after the players he saw in the saloons, dressing himself in flashy clothes and smiling smugly and acting as though he were some sort of God’s gift.
In truth, it is a lot of bravado and Casper has many insecurities but hides them and the grief of his father behind flashy smiles and a fast tongue. From his father he also learnt how to handle a gun and it is a skill he has honed over time and he is quick and accurate but has never drawn his gun in violence before.
